Course Description
In this course students will examine the purpose and practices of Christian worship. Attention will be given to developing a philosophy of communal worship based on Biblical principles, and skills to plan worship services effectively for a congregation.
Course Objectives
- Articulate a philosophy of the role of Christian worship in the life of a contemporary church;
- Plan or participate in the planning of effective and creative worship services for their congregations and for churches of varying worship styles and traditions;
- Discuss and lead discussions about the purpose and practice of Christian worship within the context of a local church congregation;
- Understand from a broad perspective the development of worship practices throughout Judeo/Christian history and the place of Baptist worship within that tradition;
- Understand and creatively implement worship elements such as music, drama, prayer, and the use of Scripture in a variety of settings and worship styles in a manner that exhibits sound Biblical principles;
- Reference and use, even if on a basic functional level, relevant software programs and other technology commonly utilized in contemporary worship practices.
