Course Description
This course introduces students to the field of technical communication through current theory and practical applications of scientific and technical discourse, covering such topics as technical editing, usability testing, proposal writing, ethics, oral presentations, visual rhetoric, writing style, and international technical communication.
Course Objectives
At the completion of English 3303, students should demonstrate the following proficiencies:
· A demonstrated understanding of the processes involved in creating technical communications
· A demonstrated understanding of the variety of audiences and purposes for technical communications
· A demonstrated understanding of research methods and documentation style (APA)
· A demonstrated understanding of the role of ethics in technical communications
· A basic ability to design a letter/form/PP/other documents using simple graphic design skills
· The ability to use argumentation and persuasion in technical communications
· The ability to use basic Web 2.0 technologies
· The ability to make a formal presentation to the class in a professional manner
· The ability to use correct grammar and mechanics in writing
· The ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people
